I'm a crafty person in general, and loved art class in school (except drawing because I was never that great at it). Besides knitting, crochet, and sewing I also like to make cards and scrapbook. When I have spare time and feel the impulse I sometimes dabble in beading.
My Oma, Dutch for Grandma, taught me how to knit and crochet when I was about 8. I was always fascinated by how quickly she could knit up a hat or crochet baby booties, and she always had knitting needles or a crochet hook in her hands. The only time she didn't was when she was cooking in the kitchen. I didn't really have a use for needle arts back then, and sort of forgot over the years. But suddenly knitting and crochet became popular when I was in high school, and I relearned the basics and self-taught myself everything I know today. I continue to learn more stitch patterns and techniques, such as Fair Isle, and my favorite part is when it finally clicks with what my brain wants my hands to do.
As far as sewing goes, I learned that mostly from my mom. I loved the sound of the sewing machine when my mom would sew when I was younger. Also, I'm petite (just 5'1") so I usually have to hem pants that I buy. Once I was old enough my mom taught me how to hem my own pants since I would need that skill for the rest of my life.
Apart from crafts I like to garden and read. I also have music on pretty much 24/7 except when I'm sleeping (although I've fallen asleep with my iPod ear-buds in before). My iPod has everything from classical to country and everything in between.
